Island residents on Ambergris Caye, Belize woke up on April 1, 2017, to shocking footage of an altercation that took place at Central Park, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize involving night club patrons and San Pedro Police officers. During the incident shots were fired by a police officer in which four bystanders were injured. Three officers were captured on surveillance camera stomping on a young man even as he turns himself in to police in his family’s yard on Police Street Extension. With some sixteen weeks of intense training, one of the biggest cohorts of recruits to date marched out in style in front of dignitaries to be officially admitted to the force. Over one hundred and fifty became police officers; among those were some Special Constables, who also trained to become full-fledged officers of the law. News Five was at the passing out ceremony and Andrea Polanco shares how that event went.
The passing out ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon where Guest Speaker, Minister of National Security Hon. John Saldivar, commended the men and women for their hard work and for answering the call to preserve law and order in their nation.
